It has officially begun. I'm back, doing the 30 Day Blogging Challenge that is hosted over at Indie Business Network Facebook group. I had so much fun last time I participated that I'm willing to subject myself again. Read on to find out moreRead More
It's coming! On June 23rd, from 7-9pm, we are hosting a Facebook Party in our group called the Barn Loft. Head on over there to join up. What is a Facebook Party? I thought you'd never ask! It's a stay-at-home-in-your-jammies-with-a-beverage kind of party. No, we're not coming over to crash your place. Jump into the group just before 7pm on that night and watch the magic unfold. I'm thinking there will be a Scavenger Hunt, prizes and even a Grand Prize! There will also be incentives along the way. You don't even have to stay for the whole thing, but you might miss out on some fun! Please invite your friends to join up as well. The more, the merrier.
As the party goes along, you will also get to see benefits to hosting your own Blossom's Barn Facebook Party. Just in case you are worried I may try to rope you into becoming some sales consultant or something like that. No worries. That's not what this is about and that is not even on my radar for this company. We are just looking for fun ways to get you, our brand ambassadors together in one place and have a blast and grab some great products. So be there or be square on June 23rd at 7pm, or whenever you can make it. Super excited and I can't wait!
In case you weren't aware, you can find us on Instagram, Facebook, and SnapChat all under the handle Blossomsbarn. If you want to see pretty photos of our homestead and production and products, head on over to Instagram. If you want more of a personal, random look at our days here, go to SnapChat. And well, we all know about Facebook. Check us out on these other platforms.
You can now find Blossom's Barn products in two Chicago locations. The first is Eskell, a gorgeous women's boutique and the other is Futurgarb, a rad place for both men and women's fashion. Both, I believe, are in Wicker Park neighborhood. Check them out and give them some love. They are some really great boutiques.
Being disabled comes in all kinds of forms. There are those born with issues that prevents them from doing the things that others without that issue can do. Then there are people that develop problems along the way of life, such as blindness, illness, mobility, the list is endless. And then there is being disabled from social media. In particular, Facebook.
Sometime on Wednesday, my personal Facebook account was disabled by Facebook. This came as a surprise to me. I'm the one who posts about our animals on the homestead, my garden, Cassidy, my Great Pyrenees, travels, all the soapy goodness coming out of our business, well, you get the drift. What I don't typically talk about are politics, religion, and the government agenda of the day, you know, the 'hot' topics. While I definitely have my own views and convictions, I've hardly used Facebook as my soapbox. Yes, on occasion, but not very often. I want it to be a happy place for me and my followers.
While I am missing what's going on in the world of Facebook from a personal level, the part that is having me climb a wall is not having access to our business page and all the groups I belong to, one of which is part of a paid business subscription, which is where I tend to hang out the most. I have no access to Messenger. So in essence, I'm cut off.
One thing I've learned in all of this is that Facebook has totally integrated into our lives. If you use Facebook at any level, especially if you're on it every day, once it's ripped from you, stand back and watch the convulsions begin. No kidding. I admit. I'm addicted to it and not in ways that most think. I rely on it to stay connected to my customers. I rely on it to meet with my business peeps. I rely on it to exchange information in certain groups that I have formed for different reasons. I rely on it to find answers to particular questions. These are the connections I crave! Never mind my personal news feed. It's become junked up with re-postings of memes and advertising. It's difficult to find the real things I want to see. I spend a great deal of time scrolling on my personal feed. I might not miss that so much. But this other. Yes. Most definitely.
I've been going through the Facebook protocol and channels they provide, which is very limited. I've started the appeal (5 times) and I have yet to hear from them. I know it's only been 2 days, but it's the longest two days I've endured in a long time. I'm surprised it's taking them so long to respond to my pleas. Something. Give me something! Not just your canned auto-respond email saying you received my request. Great. Now do something about it. This is all a huge mistake. Let's fix it and move on.
What would life be like if I don't get my account back? I don't know. My first inkling would be to try to set up another account. My fears with that is not being able to rebuild the Blossom's Barn page without messing with the name. And then there's all my groups. In a way, it could be cleansing. Get rid of the people you aren't really connecting with anyway but are too kind to delete. I could move my shtick to another platform, say Instagram. I'm already there by the way, I'm just not rocking it like I should. Or Pinterest. All of these have their challenges, such as learning how to totally work them for the sake of business. I just dabble in them for now, but that tune may change here real quick.
I'll admit it's pretty strange not sitting on Facebook several times a day. Wow, just think of all the time I get back if I don't have an account any longer. Hmmmm....
It's getting to be that time of year again. Feverishly deciding on which markets to attend and how to be attractive to our customers is always a daunting task and usually begins in January or February. But not me. This year will be different. I am passing on any spring and summer markets and shows.
I may be at a couple of fall shows and my usual November shows. Otherwise, please find your Blossom's Barn favorites on our web site www.blossomsbarn.com. I will miss you, but this is for the best health of this business, and me!
We also have a Facebook page AND a special Facebook group called The Barn Loft. Head over to both of these and join right now. Our new group, The Barn Loft, is a place for those who love parties, fun conversation, early sneak peeks, limited edition group only products, being able to test new products, and Ask The Maker. We are new, but a lively bunch. Come over and join where the action is, we'd love to have you.
You can also sign up for our newsletter to receive special announcements, specials and other news. You can sign up at the bottom of this blog post.
And finally, you can find us on Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter!! Just look for @blossomsbarn on any of them and you're in!
There are so many ways to stay connected and we would really love for you to utilize any of these methods.
Enjoy the show season!
This past weekend, I put all my responsibilities aside and took off for Nashville. I ran away, I did. What I was seeking couldn't be found around me. Let me tell you how many times I've witnessed eyes rolling into the back of heads when I actually begin to answer the questions of "So how's your business going?" or "What are you up to lately?" In reality, nobody really wants to hear anything more than, "Fine. All's good." Well let's just say, I've lost track of how many times. Anyway, business owners need a place to go to spill their guts, let the ideas, failures, and wins fall out and into reality. We do tend to keep what we really do close to our hearts. Sometimes, okay, many times, it can get overwhelming. We need our own tribes to be able to sharpen each others iron, hone our skills, and see if we are on track. We also need accoutability with other like minds.
It was refreshing and inspiring to see some of my favorite ladies I follow and listen to, in person. These are business ladies that have taken a small idea and have grown it into big business for themselves and their families. It allows the rest of us to actually see, that with lots of hard work, motivation, and continuing know-how, that we can attain to those levels as well. Sometimes, it feels like forever that we stay small. But we don't have to. It's okay to dream big and then follow a laid out plan on how you will obtain that dream.
At this meeting, I learned how to better plan my time. How to do the trudge every day in small bites. I forget to eat the elephant in small bites and instead look at the whole animal and get discouraged. Small bites. That's how you eat the elephant. I also learned many things about working social media and to better utilize it. Without it, a business is dead in the water these days. I learned that if I don't keep up, and that's hard to do, then I will be left in the dust. It's a necessary evil. Whether I like it or not, this is a case of keeping up with the Jones' and even surpassing them. Another thing I gained was what do I want my end game to look like. What is needed to exit the game. I think many don't think about this. I know I didn't. Much to chew on. One final thing that is always glaring me in the face, is my elevator pitch. I have none. I'm posting is right here, that I will have this nailed down by the end of the month. There, it's in writing.
Listening to the wisdom of those who have gone before us was fantastic, but the best part was meeting new people and meeting in person people I've seen or "known" on social media for several years. Meeting in person finally is like catching up with an old friend you haven't seen in a while. We had tears of joy and frustration. High fives and wins. A new baby even came into the world on the second day! The mom lived locally, so no worries.
I left this conference feeling like I scaled a mountain. A mountain of hope, fear, and determination. I left feeling freshly encouraged and motivated. I was able to dump my brain only to get it filled up with fresh material. It was worth it. Every minute. Even with continuous helicopters keeping me up all night. It was worth it.
What do you do to recharge yourself? What keeps you fresh and motivated? I'd like to hear about what works for you.
Housekeeping note. Don't forget, if you get a black box in order to leave a comment, you don't have to sign up for anything!! Just click on the little head icon. There you leave your name and email, just like any other blog. This is confusing, I know. But it works that way and I don't know how to change it.
I can't believe it. Five years have gone by in a flash! But what a long way we have come on this journey called being an entrepreneur. So many things have come and gone. So many changes have been made over the years. These changes have been good. Very good.
Our packaging continues to evolve into something, I think, pretty amazing. What a difference it makes to have a team working with you to improve your brand and keep you on track. Being a creative, it's very difficult for me to stay on track and not bunny trail off into the unknown. So it's good to have some people to be accountable to in order to keep my focus. I call it the shiny object syndrome. Enjoy the new photos and don't forget to grab one for yourself. The new soap boxes are real beauties.
We've gone through several website changes. I really hope you love our new platform and our new look. We think it's important for you to be able to shop with ease and have it also be an enjoyable experience. Since this is a new platform, I must ask that you give us some time to really get to know all the bells and whistles. Do not be shy to tell us if something isn't working right. We aim to please. Every page will have a clean and updated look. Navigation has been simplified and easy to use. There is also a way to easily find the shopping cart. It should show up in the upper right-hand corner of your screen on a desk computer or at the bottom of your devices. Checking out is way easier, as well. Whew!! No more Paypal, at least for now. You never leave our site and everything is super secure. Seamless. Perfect.
Finally, new formulations for our Goat Milk Soaps have been created. We brought in even more organic goodness, more skin-loving moisture, and also, a new bar (It's so new, it doesn't have it's own box, yet) called Detox Facial Bar. This bar is packed with extra goodies like, activated charcoal, green tea extract and bentonite clay, with a yummy blend of essential oils to tantalize the senses. These have been selling like hot cakes and I just happen to have a fresh batch ready to go, so get on over there and get your right now.
What would a birthday be without a party? Here's my gift to you to celebrate. On February 5th only, use the code - BIRTHDAY#5 and receive free shipping on orders $40 or more.
Thank you for being our valued customer and sticking with us through all of our changes.
